Day 2
Drive to Hunza and Karimabad
Continue up the KKH past Gilgit and the Rakaposhi viewpoint into the Hunza valley, settling into Karimabad under the peaks.
Day 3
Karimabad, Baltit and Altit Forts
Tour the Baltit and Altit Forts above Karimabad, the old town and bazaar, and climb to Eagle's Nest at Duiker for the sunset over the peaks.
Day 4
Attabad Lake and Passu Cones
Drive up to the turquoise Attabad Lake for a boat ride, then the Passu Cones and the Hussaini suspension bridge in Upper Hunza.
Day 5
Khunjerab Pass
A day up to the Khunjerab Pass, the highest paved border crossing in the world at the China frontier, through the Khunjerab National Park.
Day 6
Return down the Karakoram Highway
Begin the drive back down the KKH, with an overnight around Chilas or Naran depending on the route and the season.
Day 7
Return to Islamabad
Complete the drive back to Islamabad, or connect to Peshawar and our Charsadda base.

Top Hunza attractions
Karimabad and the Baltit Fort
The main town of Hunza, terraced on the slope under the peaks, crowned by the centuries old Baltit Fort. The old bazaar, the nearby Altit Fort and its Royal Garden, and the ancient Ganish village make the heart of a Hunza stay.
Attabad Lake
A vivid turquoise lake in Upper Hunza, formed by the 2010 Attabad landslide that dammed the Hunza River, now lined with boats and jetties and bypassed by the Attabad Tunnel. A boat ride on the still water under the cliffs is a Hunza highlight.
Passu Cones
The row of sharp, jagged peaks above Passu, one of the most photographed skylines in the country, near the Hussaini suspension bridge and the Passu and Batura glaciers.
Khunjerab Pass
The highest paved international border crossing in the world at 4,733 metres, at the China frontier, reached through the Khunjerab National Park with its snow leopard, ibex, and Marco Polo sheep. Open around May to November, with a permit from Sost or Gilgit.
Rakaposhi viewpoint
The viewpoint on the KKH looking straight up at Rakaposhi, one of the great peaks of the Karakoram, with a cafe and glacier views. A natural stop on the drive.
Eagle's Nest, Duiker
The viewpoint above Karimabad at Duiker, famous for sunrise and sunset over the ring of seven peaks above seven thousand metres, from Rakaposhi and Diran to Ultar Sar, Golden Peak, and Ladyfinger. A sunrise stay is a short drive up from town.
The Nagar and Naltar valleys
The side valleys off the Karakoram Highway, Nagar with the Hopper Glacier and the Rakaposhi base camp trek across the river, and Naltar with its pine forest and the Blue and Satrangi Rainbow lakes. On the longer Hunza routes, arranged with jeeps on request.
