Kumrat Valley Tour from Pakistan is a forest and meadow escape in Upper Dir, four days and three nights among the tallest deodar cedars in the country.
From our Charsadda base, a short run to Dir, our team arranges transport, camp or hut stays, and the jeeps up the Panjkora River to the Kumrat forest and waterfall, with a trek to the Jahaz Banda meadow and Katora Lake for the fit. Day by day
Day 1
Depart Peshawar or Islamabad by road, the Dir Chitral road through Timergara to Thal, the last village, decent to Sheringal and rough beyond, then transfer to a 4WD jeep along the Panjkora River into the forest of Kumrat.
Day 2
A day among the tall deodar cedars of Kumrat, the river, and the Kumrat waterfall, with camp or a wooden hut stay in the valley.
Day 3
A jeep to Taki Top, then a three hour trek or horseback ride to the Jahaz Banda meadow, and on to the alpine Katora Lake, another three to four hours for the fittest walkers, ringed by peaks.
Day 4
Ride the jeep track back down to Thal and the road home to Peshawar or Islamabad.

What you will see
One of the densest deodar cedar forests in the country, spreading along the Panjkora River in Upper Dir. Cool, green, and quiet, the forest is the heart of a Kumrat trip and the base for the meadows above.
A wide waterfall a short walk from the valley floor, fed by the snowmelt, one of the most photographed spots in Kumrat and an easy stop for every traveler.
A high alpine meadow reached by a jeep ride and a trek, with wooden shepherd huts and wide green pasture under the peaks. The classic overnight or long day from the valley floor.
A bowl shaped alpine lake above Jahaz Banda, ringed by snow peaks and reached by a steep trek for the fittest walkers. The high reward of a Kumrat trek.
The river that runs the length of Kumrat, clear and cold from the glaciers, lined with camps and huts. The road and the jeep track follow it up the valley.
Thal is the last village and the gateway to Kumrat, home to the carved wooden Thal Masjid of the nineteenth century, where the metalled road ends and the jeeps begin. The Badgoi Pass beyond links Kumrat to Kalam in upper Swat for the adventurous.
Kala Chashma, the black spring, runs cold and clear from the rocks near the forest, a favourite tea and rest stop, while the meadows of Shahi Bagh and Kund Banda open higher up the valley. Green pasture and cold water on the way to the peaks.
