Day 2
Shangrila and Upper Kachura Lake

Deosai National Park
A jeep day up to the Deosai plains, the second highest plateau on earth, and the blue Sheosar Lake ringed by wildflowers and peaks in summer.
Day 4
Shigar Fort and Manthokha Waterfall
Drive to the Shigar valley and the restored Shigar Fort, then on to the Manthokha Waterfall among the terraced fields.
Day 5
Skardu Fort and the Katpana desert
Climb to the Kharpocho Skardu Fort over the town, and spend the evening on the dunes of the Katpana cold desert by the Indus.
Day 6
Leisure or Khaplu
A day at leisure in Skardu, or a drive to the Khaplu valley and its restored palace, one of the finest in Baltistan.
Day 7
Return
Fly back to Islamabad subject to weather, or begin the drive down the Karakoram Highway home.

Top Skardu attractions
Shangrila and the Kachura Lakes
The Shangrila resort sits by Lower Kachura Lake with its red pagoda, and the clear Upper Kachura Lake is a short walk away. The gentle, green heart of a Skardu trip.
Deosai National Park

Skardu Fort, Kharpocho
The old Kharpocho fort on the rock above Skardu, with a wide view over the town, the Indus, and the Katpana desert. A short climb and a heritage stop.
Khaplu Palace and valley
The Khaplu valley east of Skardu, home to the restored Khaplu Palace, one of the finest in Baltistan, the wooden Chaqchan Mosque of the fourteenth century, and the Manthoka Waterfall among the terraced fields. On the longer Skardu routes, a heritage day or overnight.
