A day at Malam Jabba, the hill resort with a chairlift, a zipline, and snow in winter, set among pine forest above the valley.
Day 3
Kalam and Ushu Forest
Drive up the valley to Kalam, walk the Ushu Forest and the riverside bazaar, and take in the peaks around Matiltan and Falak Sar.
Day 4
Mahodand Lake by jeep
A jeep track from Kalam through Ushu to the alpine Mahodand Lake, with boating on the water and the meadows and peaks around it.
Day 5
Bahrain, Madyan, and return
Stop at the craft bazaars of Bahrain and Madyan on the way down, then the road home to Peshawar or Islamabad.

Top Swat attractions
Malam Jabba
The hill resort of Swat at about 2,804 metres, with a chairlift and a zip line over pine forest and a ski slope in winter. Skiing runs from mid January to the end of February, while the chairlift, zip line, and a kids area stay open the rest of the year. A favourite family day out, reached by a mountain road from Mingora.
Kalam
The main town of upper Swat where the Ushu and Utror rivers meet, ringed by pine forest and high peaks. The base for the Ushu Forest, Matiltan, and the jeep track to the lakes.
Mahodand Lake
An alpine lake above Kalam, reached by a jeep track through the Ushu valley, ringed by meadows and snow peaks. Boating on the clear water is the highlight of the drive.
Ushu Forest
One of the densest pine forests in the country, spreading along the Ushu valley above Kalam with views of Falak Sar, the highest peak in Swat. A calm walk among tall cedars.
The White Palace, Marghazar
The marble summer palace of the Wali of Swat at Marghazar, built of the same white stone as the Taj Mahal, set in gardens below the hills. A short heritage stop from Mingora.
Bahrain and Madyan
Two riverside towns on the road up the valley, known for their carved wood craft, shawls, and honey, with the Swat River rushing past the bazaars. An easy stop on the way in or out.
The Swat Museum and Buddhist heritage
Swat was the heart of the ancient Gandhara land of Uddiyana, and the Swat Museum at Mingora holds its Buddhist sculpture, with stupa and monastery ruins like Butkara nearby. A cultural half day that sets the green valley, long called the Switzerland of the East, in its deep history.
